National Health Care Debate

All this hand wringing over the "public option." Stop already. Consolidate Medicare and Medicaid and open them up on a sliding scale to anyone who wants in.

Will it put the private insurers out of business? Probably not. The payout waits and bureaucracy will be worse with more customers, and the private sector side can give better service--for those who want to pay. FedEx and UPS compete with the Postal Service. There are still plenty of private schools--especially at the university/college level that compete with public schools.

It'll be fine. There will be both a safety net for the poor/unemployed AND a way for entrepreneurs to get basic coverage when they decide to quit that corporate job and grow their idea.

So I urge my House Rep and Senators to just open up what we already have, preferably in a way that doesn't cost much more. By creating a sliding scale to pay, hopefully costs can be set in such a way to underwrite a large part of the expanded service.

And I do have to comment about all the retirees getting on the teabagger protest buses; You are already on the public option...it's called Medicare. So STFU and go volunteer at a homeless shelter or something useful instead. Or quit taking Medicare money and pay for your own insurance.
