As we contemplate the end-game for the music industry (musicians are being advised–rightly, I think–to give away music recordings as a means to draw customers to the experience of a live show) many are wondering which sector is next. And some suspect that it is education, especially higher education. Cost has relentlessly outstripped income and inflation, and there have been, until recently, significant barriers to entry (rising costs and barriers to entry are, of course, related).
